These baskets approach the artistic side of basket making, even though they are still functional. Made with handles we find which nature produces, all these baskets are one of a kind, and utilize very special weaving materials in their construction.
The decorator band in the two baskets shown here are woven with the shavings which we have after we smooth the weaving strips with a knife. We plait them into a rope, then we use them in their natural color, or with natural bark dyes to stain the colored strips.
The handles are attached to the basket form with a very special
drawknife technique, which lets
the
attachment wrap around the Nature handle. They are then wooden pegged, and notched into
the handle for strength.
